My father taught us to be communuty service minded. He encouraged me to join the Scouting movement. At age 8 years I became a Wolf Cub, at age 11 years I became a Scout then at age 15 years became a senior Scout. As a Senior Scout I went to the Pan Pacific Boy Scouts' Jamboree held in Greystanes, NSW. When I reached 18 years, I became a Rover Scout and played Side Drum with the Highland Pipe Band.
In my first year of High School the St. John Ambulance Brigade began a recruiting drive to form a Cadet Division. I became a foundation member of the Perth No:1 Cadet Division. I rose through the ranks to become the Superintendant of the Division at age 18 years.
When I was 19 years I was called up for National Service in the Army. I found myself in the Field Ambulance company because of my involvement in St. Johns. After one month I was transferred to the Infantry and found myself a member of the Regimental Band as a Side Drummer when they found out I had been in the Rover Scouts Pipe Band. After basic Training I entered the 11/44th Battalion, Citizens Military Forces and spent the next 4 years in their Regimental Band.
In the begining of 1959 I entered Theological College to train for the Ministry and was Ordained as a Minister of the Churches of Christ in Australia in November 1961.
I was born in Western Australia to Stan and Bernice [Bunny] Jones. I am the eldest of 3 sons and we all enjoyed a very loving and secure childhood. My father was orphaned when he was 9 years of age and our mum and we three boys became his whole world. Our parents were always supportive and encouraging of all our childhood and teenage sporting and scouting pursuits.
I am a retired Ordained Clergyman, Funeral Director, Bereveament Educator and Grief Management Trainer. My wife and I have enjoyed 53 years of a really good marriage. We have 3 children alive and one son who died as a baby awaiting us in Heaven. We have been blessed with eleven grand children, ranging in age from 22 years to 6 years. They are a delight to us.
